Rare Antique Dutch Stained Glass Panel Fragment of a Soldier on horseback, 17th century. It has been reset in a new lead frame with a piece of clear glass as a replacement, this is quite typical. Some patina and natural aging to glass surface, scattered surface marks/abrasions, scattered small areas of stain loss. Please see all photos for condition. Approximately 7 1/2″ tall x 6 1/2″wide.

“THE SKATER” THIS IS A VERY RARE STAINGLASS WINDOW PANEL. IT DEPICTS A WELL ATTIRED GENTLEMAN ON ICE. By the 14th century, winters had become colder in the Low Countries. The Little Ice Age had arrived and it would change the course of history. The Dutch School of painting was represented by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and other artists. In charming oils of villages, ice and snow and winter pastimes Winter sports were invented and and the local peoples seemed to have adored them. Our stained glass skater is very important as it is an early example of a new sport. In researching the piece, the skates were of special interest. They helped to date the window to the early 17th century. The painting by Hendrick Avercamp. 1610 The Golden Age of Dutch Painting. The skates on one of his characters are nearly identical. This period of STAINED GLASS WORK – mid 17th c. Is considered by Experts To Be the ZENITH of this sublime art form. & It has been carefully stored, since 1940 by my family. On sale here is one HAND PAINTED SINGLE PANEL depicting this happy skater. Please note: This panel is in near EXCELLENT condition, which is absolutely REMARKABLE after almost 500 years. It is; however, fragile. There is some minor pitting due to age. They are very well packed. Each window panel is protected by light weight, but durable wood, has a box within a box and wrap. Is considered by Experts To Be the ZENITH of this sublime art form. & It has been carefully stored, since 1940 by my family. On sale here is one SINGLE PANEL – A Colorful and Dynamic Heraldic Coat of Arms with Orange Fish, which upon further investigatiom were actually two pairs of Sharks. The lower left shark can clearly be seen to have a symbiotic relationship going with a remora. What was the affiliation of this family’s Coat of Arms to the sea? Please note: This panel is in near excellent condition, though after almost 500 years, it is fragile. There is a crack in the narrow outer border of clear glass. It has no effect on the value. A PAIR OF STAINED GLASS WINDOW PANELS DEPICTING A COUPLE. IN THE FIELDS HARVESTING WHEAT? FLEMISH STAINED GLASS WINDOW PANELS. These are two panels. The couple wears autumnal colors of red, oranges and gold. The clothes look warm, sensible and a bit heavy. She wears a brimmed hat. The shirt looks to be possibly related to her apron. She is raking the wheat; possibly separating the chaffe. He too wears a hat and he carries a sythe along with a huge bale of wheat. Condition is representative of its age i. It will be very well packed. A FURTHER NOTE: This lovely NON ECUMINICAL 500 YEAR OLD WINDOW is comprised of an Arch decorated with BIRDS and below this Arch are BORDERS of HERALDIC SHIELDS & TOWNSFOLK AT BOTH WORK & PLAY. UNIQUE AND RARE especially as it is NON RELIGIOUS IN DESIGN. This period of STAINED GLASS WORK – early 17th c. Is considered by Experts To Be the ZENITH of this sublime art form.
