Antique BELCHER STAINED GLASS TRANSOM / WINDOW 37.5″ BY 17.75″ INCLUDING FRAME GLASS – 32.5″ BY 12.5″ GLASS HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY RESTORED AND IS IN PERFECT CONDITION ORIGINAL FRAME IS STRUCTURALLY SOUND. THE PLANET & STARS ARE PART OF A SERIES OF DESIGNS BY BECHER CALLED HEAVENS 2 WINDOWS IN THIS DESIGN & 2 ROUNDED TRANSOMS ALSO LISTED. Henry Belcher applied for patents for his mosaic process between 1884 and 1889. To make its windows, the New York company assembled small pieces of glass not larger than one half-inch across into the desired pattern. The whole mosaic was then sandwiched between two larger sheets of asbestos. The artisan poured in a liquid metal alloy, which would snake its way between the pieces and bind them together.
