Antique Gorham Leaded Glass Lamp Lotus Design 18W Shade Only Duffner Handel
Antique very rare Gorham 1906 – 1909 bulbous 18 shade in lotus design. Lots of curved bent glass indicating high quality artist made! Typical of lotus plants & lotus flowers they resemble water lily but this shade design are actually lotus plants because of description of lotus is explained. Difference in description on internet search of both plants – The 6 pale white glass w/green striations of lotus flowers around rim of this Gorham shade that float on water resemble water lilies but lotus plant has flowers growing through surface above as in this shade. Water lotus flowers floating on green leaf along shade’s border has lotus flower buds emerging from water above pairs of pink w/darker pink striations & red w/red striations in glass – Water lilies plants according to internet search do not have emerging flower buds. This was confusing others that questioned shade’s floral design? Lotus design is the answer according to research! Lotus design on glass shades are. As they are not typical flowers decided for lamp construction – lotus flowers are used. In antique leaded glass shades than water lily design. The aperture crown opening is typical of aperture opening width made by the Gorham Lamp Co – Seen in last pic. Shade is original with a bit of rattle which is sign it is antique & it is in excellent condition – I counted 8-9 very small heat cracks none near each other mostly in green leaf glass some in background glass and 1 or 2 in lower lotus flowers at border – none in any of the red & pink flower buds. This shade has many more glass pieces more than average leaded glass shades. The bulbous shape makes shade look larger than 18 across from rim to opposite rim. C 1912 Wilkinson Leaded glass “yin yang” lamp. SHADE ONLY no base. Shade is 18 x 7. Standard 3 Wilkinson aperture. Ring is the ring they used on gas lamps but still fits on normal Wilkinson caps as well as Wilkinson open top gas lamp racks. Beautiful version of the Yin Yang shade. They made this shade in a large variety of color mixes and different layout of tiles above the skirt details. I feel this is one of the best! Colors are vibrant and good blend of colors all complimenting each other. It’s said that Wilkinson used better glass in the shades made early in their career as lamp makers. I feel due to the’gas style ring for a gas lamp this is older and the glass certainly is some of the best. The shade is solid! No separations no loose pieces. May be a hairline but not obvious to me. Rare Antique J. A. Whaley Leaded Glass Tulip Lamp Shade -(only)- Shipping Possible
For sale is a green/orange Whaley leaded tulip shade. This listing is for the lamp shade only. Its condition is fair due to the breaks to the glass and one tiny piece of green glass (3/4 x 1/2 x 1/2) missing adjacent the top shade ring. There are approximately 14 pieces of glass of the approximately 200 pieces to this shade that have one or more breaks. None of the breaks are loose and the shade still shows very well. The shade has the 4 diameter opening at the top. The shade itself is 18″ in diameter and stands 7 3/4″ tall. I have enjoyed this shade, the colors are amazing.
