Bonham’s Authenticated This Floral Stained Glass Window
Their head of 19thC Decorative Arts Department authenticated the window as being made by Tiffany Studios. No attribution on this window however. Bonhams New York: Saturday, December 16, 2006 [Lot 05053] 20th Century Decorative Arts. 40,000 – 60,000 USD. The Victorian Studios window is approx. 74″ by 47.5″ or 6.2 foot by 4 foot. The window is composed of THE FINEST IN STUDIO GLASS , 1. Ring Mottle glass, 3. Ripple glass & 4. It shows an abundance of Jewels and Roundels in Pink, Opalescent and Amber. These jewels are in varied shapes and sizes. There is also a wonderful set of creamy Brown Cabochons (in plates 6,7 & 9 and also within the Crown). These Jewels plus a plethora of other Jewels both faceted and plain are throughout the entire Window. What beauty this window will cast into your Home or Estate or Business. The Window is Leaded Glass Mastery AT ITS BEST and is approx 110 years old. The main body of the Landscape Window is floral having White Lilies done in Drapery Glass (plates 2, 4). They are set off by different color greens and brown leaves in a Ripple Glass , (see plates 4,11,12). At the bottom portion is a Crown composed of Faceted Slab Glass or Chunk Jewel Glass (plates 7 , 8,10) within the Crown’s body it is surrounded by Cabochon Jewels and small Opalescent & Pink Roundels. Higher up there is a body of Blue Glass around the Lilies and this is Ring Mottle Glass (plates 2, 3 , 4,5,6,7,9). Tiffany along with LaFarge used the Chunk Glass or Irregular Nuggets that were chipped and Fractured with a Hammer to take up the entire bottom of the Crown that is within the bottom part of the Windows Crown at least the majority of it.. The light these Chunks of Glass throw off is quite amazing. There’s a total array of vivid colors and shapes plus many Jewels and Cabochons plate 12. The lady who’s blog this was is an e bay advisor had at the bottom of her advice column on buyers who do not pay this short paragraph and because it had a item number I was able to bring it up on e bay. The fact that this window has proper documentation helped increase its value substantially. Just viewing this window with proper light behind it, is like a Beautiful painting come to life, a Feast for the Eyes, an uplifting feel for the Soul. This Window is the Zenith of Beauty & Design IN STAIN GLASS. It is in wonderful shape The Glass is tight and for a very large Window there are maybe 8 to 10 hair lines in the small pieces of glass, and they are all very tight. As you can make out in the pictures the retaining bars have done a wonderful Job over the last Century in keeping this window Sound and without flaw. I ask that you take your time in looking at the few photos that I offer you. They in no way convey the True Beauty that this Window will afford it’s viewers in real life. Tiffany’s Studio Windows are Rare Beauties and Floral Beauties of this size are quite difficult to find in the marketplace and when found, are out of reach Price Wise. The window is framed out in a Pine frame, the approx. Measurements given are for the glass only. The window has very good support and is as tight as can be.
