1860's FLINT GLASS CABLE GOBLETS / Early Pressed Leaded Glass / Set Of 4 / RARE

The first trans-Atlantic telegraph cable was laid in 1858 and it is said this’Cable’ pattern was designed to commemorate that achievement. Others call this the’Rope’ pattern and say the introduction of these popular glass pieces around 1860 is just a coincidence. One museum that has a specimen of this pattern in their collection says it was made by Boston and Sandwich Glass Company but these glasses are unmarked. Although referred to as’Flint Glass’, manufacturers had switched from adding flint to the glass for strength & clarity to using small amounts of lead. The percentage of lead was lower than what was used in the 20th century (sometimes as low as 4%) but you can still hear the higher pitched’ring’ when tapping these 1860’s goblets. Each one measures 6 3/8 inches tall by 3 3/8 inches wide and they are in excellent used condition except for some hard water deposits on the bases (see photo). They Are Cut to Clear In The Following Colors… Cobalt, Amber, Pink Rose, Dark Amethyst, Emerald Green And Light/Lime Green. These Are Hand Blown, Hand Cut Hand Crafted German Bleikristall. Each Glass Measures 7 3/8 Tall. The Top Diameter Is 2.25″ And The Base Diameter Is 2.75″. No Chips, Cracks or Other Issues. Any Small Minor Imperfections (Extremely Tiny Bubbles) Are Inside the Glass… These Date To The 1970’s. They Are From My Mother’s Collection. Please See My Other Items. These glasses are NOT “Princess House”. The manufactuer is Heritage Irish Crystal. He Cathedral Oversize Wine Goblet is an impressive wine glass from Heritage Irish Crystal for those who seek a larger style. Inspired by light streaming through a cathedral window. Each traditional mouth blown and hand cut lead crystal stem refracts light in its own unique way producing a rainbow of color. Dimensions for this glass are. 9.25 inches high, 4.5 inches wide at the widest point of the Goblet, 18 ounce capacity. Heritage Irish Crystal is a family run company, founded in Waterford City, Ireland by Joe Williams. His career in the industry has spanned more than 30 years. Dedication to preserving the highest standards of traditional manufacturing of Irish Mouth Blown and Hand Cut Crystal is reflected in every piece using tools that have changed little from those that were used in Ireland during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Each individual piece of Heritage Irish Crystal is authentically mouth blown and hand cut in Waterford City, Ireland. Berings in Houston, Texas is still open but I have no idea if they still carry Heritage Crystal. I have a large collection of Heritage Stemware in the following: Regular Size Wine Chalices, Wine Glasses, Champagne Flutes, High Ball Glasses and Iced Tea Glasses… All made by Heritage from Waterford, Ireland. Heritage made Oversized Cathedral Wine Goblets in both Goblet and Chalice. I mention the difference in the Heritage Wine Goblets and Chalices because this particular questioner may not have been aware that Heritage made different SIZE stemware and mentioned that they did not see these Oversized glasses on the Heritage site. The Oversized Wine measurements across the top from rim to rim are approximately 3 1/4 inches. The glasses are approximately 9 1/4 inches in height and weight 2 pounds 2 ounces each.
