Leaded Glass Window

Pair 24″x84″x1.75. Antique Leaded Glass Sidelites. Antique sidelites/windows salvaged from an old home in Central New Jersey. Each one is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine wood and is painted on both sides. When most people hear “pine” they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 – 20 year old trees don’t have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. The width and height of each sidelite was. Unevenly cut by 1/4 at some point. The cuts were most likely made to compensate for a settling foundation or an old warped floor. We could cut the sidelites to an even width/height, cut them shorter or narrower, and we could also add wood to make them taller or wider to fit your opening. He tall, bottom rails of the sidelites are comprised of several boards. Over the years of expansion and contraction due to fluctuations in temperature and humidity, the boards separately slightly. Those are the thin gaps you see in the close-up photos. Although they have no adverse affect on the sidelites, the gaps could be closed for good measure. Condition : Considering that the sidelites are about 100 years old, they’re in great shape. The typical scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on doors/windows this old. However, there are no serious flaws like rot, warp, or broken joints. Each sidelite has a leaded skeleton with 40 pieces of true-divided glass. Unfortunately, one sidelite has 3 broken pieces and the other has 4 cracked pieces. We had a stained glass repair shop nearby that used to fix our leaded glass windows, but they closed down 2 years ago. Since the glass is clear and the skeleton is lead (not zinc or brass), it should be an easy repair for any glass shop that does such work. The rest of the undamaged glass only has subtle scratches. We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the doors to prepare any of them for you to repaint or refinish. Swing : The hinge mortises span the thickness of the door and could be installed on either side to allow the door to swing in any direction. We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace glass with screen, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Sidelites : 23 3/4 ” – 24 ” x 83 3/4 ” – 84″ x 1 3/4 ” 23 3/4 ” – 24″ x 83 1/2 ” x 1 3/4.
